Children Summer

Mad Science
Ages 3 - 12

We are proud to offer the improved 2018 Summer Learning Challenge from July 9th - August 17th. This year’s theme of “Mad Science” will encourage children aged 3 – 12 to keep reading and learning throughout the summer. Research shows that children can lose one to three months of learning every summer. This is called the “Summer Slide”. You can help your kids continue learning during the this time when you get them involved in our Summer Learning Challenge.

Join us as we explore our way through the Mad Science themes with experiments, books and unique crafts plus other fun experiences! Weekly themes will include: Senses and the Body, Space, Natural Science, Paleontology, Chemistry, and Flying Machines.

Additional Events for Children

Did you know… you do not have to be registered or participate in the programs to track your reading throughout the summer! We encourage you to participate in these challenges:

Read with Us
Drop by our Reading Station in the Alexandra Program Room. You will get reading practice & support from our programmers.

Use your Summer Reading Log
Keep track of how much you read throughout the summer. For every ‘milestone’ reached – one, three, and six hours read – you will have the opportunity for prizes!

Find Mischief the Rat
Read Mischief a book and then go to the table by the main entrance to write down the secret code (found on Mischief’s collar) and your name onto a ballot. Then, enter it in the box at the information desk for a chance to win a weekly prize! You can play this game once a week.
