Summer Learning Challenge

Summer Learning Challenge Registration Begins Monday, June 17 at 10 am

Around the World in 30 Days
Did you know that during the summer children can lose one to three months of learning? This is what is known as the “Summer Slide”. Through this year’s Summer Learning Challenge, we promote learning throughout the summer to keep children climbing instead of sliding!

This year’s theme is “Around the World in 30 Days”. We will be exploring and learning about a new continent each week through a variety of science experiments, art projects, traditional games, dances and MORE! Come travel around the world with us from July 8 to August 16 and learn about what our world has to offer.

Learning Challenge Experience - Drop-in
Ages 3-12
Come as a family and bring your friends to our Alexandra Program Room, where you can immerse yourself in the culture and environment of one of the continents of the world! Set off on your adventure exploring new stations with science experiments, arts, traditional games, and more! Your experience changes each week as we fly to a new continent. Each weekly visit lasts approximately one hour.

Watch the flight path for details on where the adventure will take you next!

Summer Reading Challenge
Track how many hours you read this summer in your passport to reading! For every milestone (one, three, and six reading hours), you will have your name placed in a draw for a prize.

Our challenge is open to preschool patrons too! Keep track of how much time you read as a family and be entered to win weekly prizes!

The Hunt for Monty the Python
Monty is a Burmese Python visiting the library from the tropical Amazon Rainforest between July 2 - August 15! Don’t be afraid, he is a stuffie not a live snake! He likes to spend his time hiding around the library, but most of all, he enjoys listening to stories! Come in and search the library for him, curl him up on your lap and read to him, then write down the secret code that he carries with him. Enter your ballot into a box at the front desk for a chance to win a weekly prize! You can participate in this hunt once a week and do not forget to record these reading hours in your passport!
